Pear export to China about to start

Reception at Dutch Consulate General in Hong Kong -Photo report

Last week, the Asia Fruit Logistica was once again held in Hong Kong. On the first night of the event, the yearly reception took place by invitation of Wilfred Mohr, Dutch Consul General. Wilfred Mohr welcomed everyone present, and says he's delighted to be able to welcome more guests each year on this night. He briefly discussed the Russian sanctions and their consequences. A big consequence is that companies will move to the Asian market. He indicated their willingness to help where necessary.

Thereafter, Nynke Runia, agricultural advisor, also spoke. She talked about the current difficulties as well, causing new opportunities to be looked for in Asia. This makes access to China even more important. The procedure for pears is in the finalizing stage. At the end of this month, the border is likely to be opened. Other products will follow, such as the bell pepper, for instance. Finally, Nynke mentioned that Marinus Overheul is no longer working at the embassy. He has been replaced by Martin Olde Monnikhof, whom some already know. The guests enjoyed a delicious meal this evening, and were also able to discuss a successful first day of the event.
