Dole challenges conventional wisdom at Cool Logistics Global 2014

Struggling for profit and growth sums up the current state of the perishable logistics sector. At the same time, there is still a huge amount of waste in the farm to fork supply chain. In 2010, half of food production worldwide was lost between harvest production and consumption, as highlighted at the 3rd Cool Logistics Conference.

What has changed since then and what else can be done? Can shipping, logistics, food production and marketing afford to continue pulling in different directions?

Andy Connell, Business Manager Special Projects & Industry Affairs, Dole South Africa, will seek to answer some of these difficult questions in the first keynote speech of the day at the 6th Cool Logistics Global Conference in Rotterdam next month. He will share a panel with Emile Hoogsteden, Director of Containers, Breakbulk & Logistics, Port of Rotterdam, and Alexis Michel, Senior Vice President, Container Logistics and Reefer, CMA CGM.

Adding spice to this year's conference will be the fall-out from the recently announced Russian trade embargo for food from Europe, North America and Australia, thus serving as a timely backdrop for this year's conference theme: Tackling trade risks: Perishables, protectionism and profitability.

Cool Logistics Global brings together shippers of perishable cargoes from fresh produce to protein; carriers, infrastructure and logistics service providers.
