Auchan ends partnership in India

French retail group Auchan has ended their partnership with Indian chain Max Hypermarkets with a mutual agreement, due to an inability to fully adapt to developments within the Indian law.

“Consequently, in a mutual agreement, the 12 Max Hypermarket stores will stop being under the Auchan name between now and January 2015” indicates Auchan in a press release.

Auchan, however, remains “determined to invest in the long term” on the Indian market. They remain convinced by the pertinence of their hypermarket model for Indian consumers.

Another French retailer, Carrefour, announced their decision to leave the Indian market in July this year. By September they will have closed their five wholesale cash and carry stores that they owned.
