Costa Rican scientists discover a nematicide for the cultivation of banana and plantain

While conducting research to solve a problem in the banana plantations, a group of Costa Rican researchers accidentally discovered a nematicide that controlled some very small worms that damaged the plants.

Verango is the first nematicide with low environmental impact that benefits the banana and plantain's roots' health.

According to Jorge Sauma, from the National Banana Corporation, the application of traditional nematicides is performed three times a year but, depending on the plantation's conditions, Verango could be applied only once a year, saving the producers time and money.

The research was developed by Bayer and, according to them, another great benefit of this product is that it is healthier for consumers.
