Promperú to promote citrus exports to Asia

The Commission for the Promotion of Peruvian Export and Tourism (Promperú) reported that Peru would promote citrus exports in the Asian market in the Expo Peru Fair that will be held between July 15 and 18 this year.

"There is great citrus consumption in Asia. A year ago, Peru's commercial office in China did a study on the potential of these products in order to boost exports," said José Quiñones, deputy director for International Promotion of Exports, to the Andina news agency.

To do so, he said, as part of the Fair, they had scheduled a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva, and the representatives of the health authority responsible for the import of food products in China.

He also stated that Promperú was confident that the export of Peruvian citrus to the Japanese market would become a reality, after the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA) successfully completed the confirmatory test quarantine treatment of cold storage of Satsuma mandarin (Citrus unshiu) for entry into the Asian country.

Quiñones also said that Promperú had invited entrepreneurs from Japan to participate in the Expo Peru Fair in China, with the aim of publicizing the main Peruvian agricultural export products.

"Not only are we going to meet with entrepreneurs from China, we have also invited buyers from Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and Taiwan. That way we will progress in our rapprochement with Asia," he added.

Finally, he said the Expo Peru Fair in China, which will bring together 20 Peruvian exporting companies, would be held between July 15 and July 16 this year in Beijing, and from July 17 to July 18 in Shanghai.
