Banabay aims for larger slice of substantial China market
BanaBay’s new Chinese contracts are part of an impressive growth curve for the brand, whose Managing Director Mark O’Sullivan estimates BanaBay is on target to ship up to 100 containers of bananas a week globally by the end of the year.
BanaBay currently supplies 16 containers of Ecuadorian bananas a week into China and is building a reputation for its products’ superior taste, premium quality and reliability of supply.
According to BanaBay’s Business Development Manager for China, Yuchi Li, BanaBay is proving an attractive alternative to bananas traditionally sourced from the Philippines.
“China is an important part of the future development of BanaBay, so we have focused on building strong relationships with our customers in this massive potential marketplace. We have been keen to demonstrate that BanaBay is highly flexible and able to respond to companies’ specific needs. For example, in China there is preference for bananas to be supplied as full hands, which we can specify at plantation level with the option of packaging the fruit in variety of box weights. As well as the standard 13.5kg, we can also deliver 18.5kg and 19kg, depending on requirements,” he explains.
“In addition, the Ecuadorian climate is more stable and not as subject to severe weather events as other parts of the world, so we can maintain supply and quality throughout the year.”
