French potato producers advised not to plant more than needed

Potato planting is about to begin, or has already started, in the main production areas. The Unpt (National Union of Potato Producers) has expressed concern about a further surface increase expected in the 2014/2015 season. Definitive figures will be published mid-June.

''Whilst aware that weather conditions in months to come will have a major influence on the yield'', the Unpt considers that ''the rise in acreage will have an impact and that needs to be considered in the development of total production''.

They encourage each producer to ''ensure that they produce the quantity and quality for an outlet, adapted to their buyer. It is the responsibility of everyone, producer or fresh or industrial market operator, to set themselves an aim to maintain an offer-demand equilibrium''.
