The work carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism to diversify the market is allowing Peruvian exporters to take new challenges to position their products in other markets, such as Morocco.
Since agriculture accounts only 15.1% of Morocco's GDP, this market, with which Peru has traded since before 1994, is a future destination for exports from Lambayeque.
Lambayeque has the opportunity of exporting fresh grapes, fresh or dried mangoes and avocados to this African country as its imports of these products during the 2008-2012 period increased by 9%, 13% and 7% respectively.
During the same period of time, Moroccan imports of frozen strawberries and of raspberries increased by 161% and 104% as well.
It is worth noting that the Moroccan consumer sector has had a significant evolution in recent years due to a number of factors, such as the change in the consumption habits of the population, the improvement of living standards, the new credit facilities and the country's opening of its market, among others. They are impulsive buyers that are sensitive regarding prices.
