Netherlands: Technique to wash strawberries big hit
The entrepreneurs have gained a lot of experience in cutting fruit over the years. Due to the demand for cleaner strawberries from existing customers and need for a qualitative better end product they have been trying out several techniques to wash strawberries, cut as well as whole. In the meantime they have found a solution through a combination of existing and new techniques. "We have been working on this for the last 6 years and are now delivering the washed strawberries for our fourth season, but now have come to a point that we have to promote it further," explains Pieter.
"The washed strawberries are a big hit. The benefit is that the strawberry has no dirt on its surface and because of this you also have a microbiological advantage. In addition it has a big advantage for our bakery clients because moist resignation is no longer happening. This way there will be no more red discolouration on the pastry not even when it is cut which works out very well when it comes to the presentation. The strawberries in the shakers are really clean now. Last but not least, through the knowledge we gained we also developed a production method with which we can avoid cut kiwi and melon ripening any further," concludes Pieter enthusiastically.
