China speeds up clearance process for Taiwanese fruit

Xiamen customs quickly cleared a batch of fruits from Taiwan including sugar apple, pineapple, wax apple, guava and other fruits, with a total of 21.19 tons. As the country's largest importer and distributor of Taiwanese fruits, and to meet Taiwan's fruit import season, Xiamen Customs worked overtime and opened a "Reserve Overtime Window" to accept and coordinate all customs clearance, inspection and other departmental work that needs overtime. In addition, they implemented "Quick Checks, Quick Release" procedures, boat clearance and other customs clearance measures to make things convenient and to ensure that the fruits from Taiwan remain fresh, a first in the mainland market.

"Taiwan's had a good fruit harvest this year, the quality is good and very easy to sell, and we are ready to import some more," said Ms Yao, representative of Xiamen Xinjinlu Trading Co., relieved to see the smooth clearance of Taiwanese fruits.

"Taiwan's seasons has significant effects on fruit imports, the first quarter is the peak season for imports of sugar apple and pineapple, the second second quarter is the season for mangoes." Ms. Yao states that "Taiwanese fruits are very popular in the mainland this year, Taiwan's major fruit exporters are aiming to increase their presence in the mainland market, increase the variety and supply, so we are importing more than in previous years."

Xiamen Customs statistics show that from January to February this year, Xiamen imported a total of 25.92 million yuan worth of fruit from Taiwan, an increase of 41%. In February alone, 8.8 million yuan of Taiwanese fruits was imported, an increase of 22.5%. The main fruits include fresh sugar apple, citrus, fresh dates, etc.
