Fruit & veg failing to pass residue inspection, falls further

The amount of fruit and vegetables failing to pass inspection due to high pesticide residue has again fallen, report German website Taspo.de. According to research carried out by the 'German Fruit Trade Association (DFHV) and the QS professional society for fruit, vegetables and potatoes GmbH' (QS), around 98.9% of all fruit and vegetable samples examined showed pesticide residues well under the legal limit. The results were summarized in the monitoring report presented during Fruit Logistica 2014 and can be downloaded from the QS website (www.q-s.de).

DFHV and QS have evaluated and monitored the analysis of over 16,400 samples from 65 countries. With 1.1% of the total sample exceeding the permitted maximum level of pesticide residue this is 0.2% lower than the previous year. In 40% of the samples no trace of any pesticide could be found.
