Global Fresh Technology expands South African presence
“Instead of creating an international corporation, we each have our own companies that are linked together,” said Brandenburg. “We offer services around modified atmosphere packaging, food safety, post-harvest physiology and farming operations and systems.” Sensing a market with much potential, Brandenburg wanted to establish a stronger presence in the South African market, so he's partnered with Halden Packaging to do just that.
“South African retailers and processors told us that, because of their geographic location, they found it difficult to keep up with the leading edge of global technology,” said Brandenburg. “So we're trying to be that conduit to make sure the country is on the leading edge.” He also emphasized how quantifiable metrics and their science-driven approach can help their South African clients.
“We design and offer modified atmosphere packaging design that's based on the physiological properties of what's being packaged, and we have modified atmosphere packaging that also manages the free liquid and water vapour transmission rate,” said Brandenburg. “By this summer, we'll also bring out new technology that we think will revolutionize the fresh produce marketplace, and to our knowledge, there's no other company in South Africa that's acting as a conduit for those kinds of technologies.”
