Good taste but lighter volumes

New season organic pears from Argentina arrive at AweSum Organics

Awe Sum Organics has announced they are extremely excited about the quality of their Organic Pears coming from Argentina this season. Confident they will be some of the best tasting and highest quality organic pears in the market, Awe Sum Organics President and CEO, David Posner says, “I love our pears, they are so sweet, juicy and delicious! They are generally clean and russet-free due to the unique climate in the Rio Negro Valley. The climate of this fertile growing region is relatively dry during the growing season—there’s plenty of water for the crops due to a bountiful supply from the Rio Negro River that runs through the valley. This valley is known for growing some of the best tasting pears in the world. However volumes are projected to be down 20 – 30% due to a light set of fruit on the trees, so supply this season on all varieties will be lighter than normal.”

“Our Bartletts and Red Bartletts have just arrived, and they are Awe Sum!” says David. As the Awe Sum Organics Bartletts wind down in Mid-April, the first of their Abate Fetel, D’Anjou, Packham, Autumn Barlett, and Bosc pears will arrive. The Abate Fetel is a beautiful pear with a sleek slender shape—sweet and juicy, and is the most popular pear in Italy due to its delicate and distinctive buttery flavour. “Many of our customers like to run promotions with our Abates because they are beautiful on display and arrive in early Spring before the start of the summer fruit season. Our D’Anjou pears have a wonderfully clean appearance with amazing flavour and texture, our Packhams are large, very juicy and sweet, with a creamy flesh and a tantalizing fragrance, and our Buerre Bosc is sweet with a real buttery flavour, as its name implies. Our pears are Awe Sum!” says David. “Great for promotions, our organic pears carry our customers through the Spring and into Summer, until the California season begins”. Awe Sum Organics is able to provide their customers with a seamless Southern Hemisphere organic pear program (on both coasts of the U.S. and Canada), with all varieties and pack styles throughout the import season.

PAI is Awe Sum Organic’s pear grower, and is a true leader in Argentinian Organic fruit production. Their relationship with PAI began many years ago. Founders Roberto Garrido and his son Sebastian were some of the very first Organic fruit growers in the Rio Negro Valley, and are also one of the largest. In fact the Garrido family was one of the first to initiate fruit production in the Rio Negro Valley in the early 1900s. Their family-operated cooperative owns their packing house, packing for themselves as well as other growers. “We knew we had to find the best organic pear grower out there, and we’ve been working exclusively with PAI ever since,” said David Posner.

Sustainability is at the core of Awe Sum Organics. Along with being organically certified, Awe Sum Organics and PAI are fair trade and sustainably certified through IMO’s Fair for Life program guaranteeing social responsibility at all stages of production.
