West Pak Avocado calls for donations for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan

On November 8, 2013 the world experienced its strongest storm in known history; Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) devastated the Island nation of the Philippines leaving thousands dead and tens of thousands homeless and hungry.

The effects of this disaster touched many of our hearts, and West Pak Avocado was personally impacted. Carolina Leap, wife of Sales associate Kevin, lost 6-members of her family.

This terrible event created overwhelming need, and West Pak Avocado, with the help of its vendors and customers, has joined together with BKP-California, Inc. to meet the needs of the people of the Philippines. Over the last two months, over $15,000 dollars was raised to assist the Philippines typhoon victims in rebuilding their homes and restoring their livelihood.

Carolina Leap is the co-founder and president of BKP-California, a non-profit (100% volunteer) organization meeting the needs of the people of the Philippines. This non-profit organization aims to promote literacy in the poverty-stricken areas of the Philippines, in the hopes of providing English language proficiency and developing critical communication skills that will provide them better economic, social and civic life opportunities.

The money that was raised by West Pak Avocado and their partners will be used in the following programs; 1) Green Project - $10,000 will fund the community growing garden, in which willing participants may cultivate and grow fruits and vegetables for their own consumption as well as for selling and trading. Adopt a Fisherman - $5,000 will provide 12 fisherman with non-motorized boats as well as some fishing equipment.
