Elegance, Fenella strawberries gaining market share across Europe

Hargreaves Plants has increased its propagation of both Elegance and Fenella strawberry varieties to cater for additional market demands. Both varieties offer commercial advantages for commercial growers over current industry standard types.

A range of plant types are being produced: these include waiting bed plants for maximum first year yields. In addition, large volumes of A+ and standard grade plants are being used by growers looking to maximise yields on lower input growing systems across Europe. With costs of growing strawberries ever increasing, there are significant advantages in planting varieties that offer high yields of excellent quality fruit without necessarily the need for polythene tunnels.

Jamie Petchell, commercial director of the company stated, "These two varieties have become extremely important within our plant range as growers are looking for more cost-effective growing solutions. Elegance offers higher yields than we've seen from almost all commercially grown short day varieties, whereas Fenella is delivering superb flavour in the late cropping season."
