The Philippines wants to import pears, apples and table grapes from Argentina

A delegation from the Philippine's Bureau of Plant Industry toured the Argentine provinces of San Juan, Mendoza and Rio Negro, as part of its negotiations with SENASA to open the Asian Republic to exports of apple, pear and fresh grapes from Argentina.

Accompanied by technicians from SENASA, the Philippine delegation, made up by Merle Bautista Palacpac, director of Plant Quarantine, and Lorielie Umali Agbagala, coordinator of post-entry quarantine, visited productive fields and container facilities of pears, apples and fresh grapes to check the phytosanitary status of these crops, the packaging process and the activities of the National Programme against the Fruit Fly.

The BPI is carrying out a Pest Risk Analysis to establish phytosanitary import requirements and authorize the opening of its market to imports of fresh fruit from Argentina.

By the end of their visit, at the SENASA's headquarters, the members of the Philippine delegation expressed their satisfaction after the inspections and pledged they would conclude the Pest Risk Analysis, which will give way to the opening of the Philippine market for Argentinian pears, apples and fresh grapes.
