Representatives of the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of the Region of Murcia, (Fecoam) and of COAG have presented an innovative technology that should help reduce theft in the region; a problem which causes millions of Euro in losses for the sector.
The system makes a record of every object susceptible of being stolen, such as machinery, tools, vehicles or irrigation heads, with each being assigned unique codes, invisible to the naked eye, which users incorporate to a database, allowing the police, by means of identification equipment, to identify, locate and recover the stolen products.
The president of Fecoam, Santiago MartÃnez Gabaldón, stressed that it is just a preventive measure for growers and a deterrent to thieves, as it will make it possible "to find out with absolute certainty if an object has been stolen and who the owner is."
COAG's secretary of Organisation, Francisco Gil, added that the system is achieving international success, and that both organisations consider it convenient to start using it in the Region to stop the many thefts taking place every year. All growers and cooperative members interested in acquiring this technology should consult Fecoam or COAG in order to arrange the necessary formalities.
