Philippines: Tadeco, PBGEA, reach out to Bohol quake survivors and volunteers

It may not have plantations and contract growers in Central Philippines, but Davao-based Tagum Agricultural Development Company (Tadeco) in coordination with the Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association, Inc. (PBGEA) fielded out relief operation teams in Bohol to reach out to the survivors of the October 15 7.2 magnitude earthquake.

Dubbed as “Kapiling mo ang Puso ng Saging” (literally translated as ‘the heart of the banana is beside you’), the disaster prevention and assistance program of the PBGEA manifests the compassion and social consciousness of its members.

Around 1,200 boxes of export-quality Cavendish bananas and 400 family food packs consist of rice, canned goods and mineral water were distributed by the company in the hardly-hit towns of Maribojoc, Loon, San Isidro, Antequera, Catigbian, Sagbayan, Carmen and Loboc.

Tadeco’s bananas and food packs were supplemented with PBGEA’s relief goods such as candles, matches, medicines, biscuits and mineral water.
