Dirk van Nieuwkerk, Anaco Greeve:

"Netherlands: "Tomato sales have collapsed"

When Dirk van Nieuwkerk is asked how the tomato market is going, the trader answers cryptically: "Four letters." According to the salesman for Anaco Greeve the last few weeks were slightly better, but this week was terrible. "It's not making enough. The volumes coming from Spain are alright, but it's all a bit messy."

"Mainly vine tomatoes were doing better over the last two weeks, but not the sales and the price has collapsed again. It's a shame. We've had a terrible season, so you're hoping for a nice finish. If you can make a little money in the last few weeks, it doesn't save the season, but ever penny counts!"
