Spain: Italy buys 39% of oranges Almeria exports

58 companies form the citrus sector in Almeria exported 31 million kilos of oranges, tangerines and limes between January and August, 2.5 % more in comparison to the same time last year. The horticultural companies in the province have charged 21 million Euro for these citrus fruits, almost 11% more than last year, according to a report from the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment discovered from the latest data available from Icex.

Oranges are the most exported citrus from Almeria. Between January and August, the value of these citrus fruits has exceeded 11.2 million Euro, 12.8% more than last year. The main destination of oranges from Almeria is Italy (38.5%), followed by Germany (22.35 %), and then France (17.3%). Other destinations include Algeria, Romania, The Netherlands, Poland, Belgium and Russia. Almeria ranked ninth amongst the provinces exporting oranges, with a national share of 1.3%.

Tangerine sales in foreign markets amounted to 3.7 million Euro, 3.3% more than in 2012. Their main market is Germany, which acquired 21.6% of the total; Italy ranks second (20%) and Poland third (18.6 %). The Netherlands, France, Russia, Ukraine and Romania also consume tangerines from Almeria. Almeria is Spain's eighth largest exporter of this citrus, with a market share of 0.7%.

Lime exports between January and August have exceeded 5.3 million Euro, 8.6% more than in the same months of 2012. Germany is also the main destination of these citrus fruits (30.7%), followed by Italy (17.6%) and Belgium (17.5 %). In the national lime export ranking system, Almeria is seventh with a 1.7% share.
