According to the latest data from FruitImprese, the trend of the first semester of 2013 was confirmed in July - imports are higher than exports, even though the difference is smaller than it used to.
In the period between January and July 2013, Italy imported around 2.07 million tons of produce (+7.2%) and exported 2,025 million (-10.7%). Despite this drop in exports though, the economic result was still positive (+10%). The balance is of around €404 million, a 9.7% drop with respect to the same period in 2012.
Exports of vegetables (-2.6%) and fresh fruit (-17.6%) are decreasing, citrus fruit is stationary and only dried fruit is on the rise (8.2%).
In terms of value, the sign is positive for all sectors: vegetables +13.4%, citrus fruit +31.5%, fresh fruit +6% and dried fruit +5.9%. Overall, the value of exports was of €2.285 billion.

As regards imports, Italy imported €1,881 billion worth of products (+15.4%).
Among the single sectors, there is an increase in volume for vegetables (+6%), citrus fruit (+9.4%), fresh fruit (+12.6%) and tropical fruit (+6.6%), whereas dried fruit is countertrending (-5%).
The sign is positive for all sectors in terms of value.
