Regina and Pizzutella grapes stand out, and they are cultivated on 350 hectares owned by around 500 producers. These grapes are available from August to October for a total volume of 6,000 tons.
Nicola Turi, councillor for the Adelfia municipality, explains that "Regina and Pizzutella are different from other varieties because of their golden colour, oblong grapes, sweet taste and crunchiness."
"They are sold mainly on the Italian market. The 2013 production is good, though revenues are lower than last year. On average, Regina and Pizzutella have a price hovering around €0.50-0.60/kg."
On 12th September 2013, the Adelfia municipality organised a presentation of Regina grapes at the Italian Chamber of Deputies in Palazzo Montecitorio, Rome. The initiative was extremely successful.
Nicola Turi recalls: "We wanted to highlight the particular characteristics of our grapes. We talked about the problems concerning labour costs with respect to other producer countries and asked about a differentiation of our Regina grapes from other white table grapes."
"I won't deny I was happy to see how our grapes was appreciated and raised interest. We have also aroused the curiosity for this niche product, which is ready to make itself known by a wider market."
