Egypt: Magrabi working on expanding pomegranate business

The Pomegranate season in Eqypt is expected to start slightly earlier this year than last, and a good crop is expected. Magrabi agriculture is hoping that the market will be good this year and are waiting to see how the price situation is at the moment and how it will evolve. However, they are confident that their product will make it to the high end markets as a result of them investing a lot in quality.

Magrabi believes that the demand is there. Even though their company is still relatively new to the Pomegranate business, the massive volumes are not the same as what they have in grapes or oranges. They are feeling confident that they will not face any difficulty in marketing their products, especially since they deal in markets all over the world. Egypt's biggest competition comes from Turkey (in case of season overlap) Israel and China.

Investments in quality are considered a key to their success. They have established a modern pack house for pomegranates, and constantly invite consultants to come and asses and evaluate production to ensure that it meets global standards. Magrabi acquires quality young plants and good varieties, along with implementing up to date irrigation techniques.

Magrabi is currently working closely with the Agricultural Export Council and the Egyptian Phytosanitary Authorities to open up new markets in Asia and Africa, thus expanding Egypt’s Global Markets. In addition, they have over 17 accreditations from different institutions, thus ensuring quality standards are always at their best.
