Agri-Success SA, a subsidiary of Haiti Originale LLC, Florida, is launching an intensive agricultural program for the production of bananas. In the last 50 years, Haiti lost its historical position in this sector. This project is intended to revive the ailing industry.
In the next 12 months, several pilot projects will see light of day. The program is a partnership between Haiti Originale LLC, the Ministry of Agriculture of Haiti, and the Banque de développement international americaine (BID). Dole Food Company, Inc. has been found willing to provide technical knowledge, services and agricultural advice in the program.
"Haiti has fertile land and hardworking people to revive the agro-industry," says Michael Pereira, CEO of Haiti Originale LLC. "The partnership allows us to use the potential of the country to achieve a good quality banana. This attracts investors, reduces the import of bananas and stimulate exports."
Haiti Originale was established after the 2010 earthquake to provide a platform for sustainable development and create jobs in Haiti. In addition, the company wants to invest in areas that can improve the sustainability and productivity of the Haitian economy.
