Good year for Argentinian fruit in Europe

"Despite the crisis and protectionism of the local harvest, 2013 turned out to be an exceptionally good fruit year for Argentina on the European market. Mainly due to the low availability of European stocks, causing prices to remain favourable for us," says Damian Elias Zetone, commercial director of Montever.

Montever is the largest producer of Argentine pears and a big supplier of apples. 90% of the exported fruit is grown on the company’s farm and 10% comes from member growers who deliver the same quality labels. The company is fully involved in the production, distribution and commerce.

The main destinations are Brazil, Russia, Europe, USA, Canada, Mexico and South America. Zetone explains that Asia is a potential market, but the distance is a problem and there is a lot of competition with Chile and South Africa. "China and India are closed to us for phytosanitary reasons, but research is being done in Singapore and Hong Kong."

Montever’s brands include Don Elías and Los Andes.
