Focus on fresh produce and frozen sector

Canada: New storage facility in Ontario

Igloo Cold Storage, located in North East Mississauga Ontario, Canada, by Pearson International Airport, is a new storage facility exclusively focusing on the fresh produce & frozen foods sector. The company boasts a 30,000 sq foot warehouse as a main receiving, storage and distribution hub. This new facility has state of the art equipment including large temperature controlled cooler rooms and 650,000 cubic feet of refrigerated space, along with temperature controlled shipping, receiving docks and production areas.

“At the moment we are providing third-party cold & freezer storage, also offering cross-docking, repacking and other on-site logistics,” says Frank Sarraino. “We have six rooms capable of storing produce at various temperatures.”

Igloo has only just started business, but it is already a sought-after service. “We are basically the new facility in town,” says Sarraino. “Being in the vicinity of Toronto Pearson International airport is a nice place to be, logistically speaking. We are in close proximity to all major highways and the Ontario Food Terminal, essentially the main hub for fresh produce coming through Ontario. The Terminal is widely considered the ‘stock exchange’ for fruits and vegetables.” The added advantage of being headquartered near Toronto is clear: “It’s the largest city in Canada, the biggest concentration of people. This is where it all happens.”

Despite running at nearly full capacity, expansion is not in the planning. “Right now we’re not looking to expand the concept we have, let’s say in terms of ripening rooms and so on. I think we’re covering a wide spectrum of services to adequately facilitate the industry. So far, we really can’t complain, things have been good.”
