EU: Prim'land receives Agri-Confiance certificate
Prim'land, specialist in producing and selling kiwis, received the Agri-Confiance certificate at the beginning of this year for their input into the environment and community. For instance, in 2012 the group invested over €750,000 through Scaap Kiwifruits de France for using cold air instead of gas. Glycol water transports the cold and spreads it into cooling chambers. The gas that is used to produce the cold is ammonia, a natural gas that is no threat to the environment.
At the moment the business is working on announcing the Oscar kiwi. The action plans are focussed on an improvement in climate change, biodiversity and the effect on the water. Sales of organic kiwi have increased by 18% in the last season. This makes Prim'land the most important producer of organic kiwi.
Prim'land also wants to extend its orchards by 750ha in the next 4 years. The extension of the yellow variety will likely be put on hold for a while, but the production of the Summer kiwi will certainly be extended. This has already reached 1000 tonnes and it is expected to increase to over 2000 tonnes by 2016. The same goes for the baby kiwi Nergi. 120,000 trays of it were produced last season. The goal is to produce over 5 million by 2016. The production increase of the Nergi will coincide with a promotion campaign. The sale of the Nergi takes place in the months September through to November.
