Peru to export fresh asparagus to China
The Executive Director of the Peruvian Asparagus and Vegetables Institute (IPEH), Carlos Zamorano Macchiavello, reported that China, the world's main asparagus producer, will allow the import of Peruvian fresh asparagus within two months.
The negotiations of the protocol for the export of this product between Chinese and Peruvian phytosanitary authorities are reaching the final stage.
The first shipments will be aimed at assessing the product's acceptance, as a stepping stone towards the positioning stage.
Once the market is open, the Commission for the Promotion of Peruvian Exports and Tourism (PromperĂș) will provide the necessary market research.
"It is a great challenge. China is the world's largest asparagus producer, but they have many problems with quality, which is why their production goes mainly towards the processing industry," he stated.
