Netherlands: “Chilean Hass avocado well-appreciated”

The Chilean avocado season is in full swing at Total Exotics Europe. According to Ron van der Vloed the market is presently inundated by avocados from Chile, Spain and the Dominican Republic. “But Chile is by far the most popular. Spain is only just arriving. We only deal in the Hass avocados, and you can tell they’re really taking off. The other ones are a little harder to market, but I’m sure they’ll find their way eventually.”

“The Chilean produce also excels in quality,” Ron continues. “We are in the middle of the season and the avocados are well-oiled. You just don’t have that Dominican avocados. They’re not on the same level. But the prices of Hass are on a great level and we’re happy with sales.”

“Another country about to enter the market is Israel, and we can expect the first shipments to hit us this week. We think those prices will be a bit lower than the Hass. The Chilean avocado is well-appreciated at the moment. We notice a slowly-rising consumption in Western Europe, in particular heading towards the holidays. And the appreciation for the Hass is still increasing."
