The ratification of the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union will allow greater input of products from Lambayeque. Of their 27 members, Germany stands out, as despite the economic crisis this year it billed the sum of USD 151,866 for the purchase of 50,664 kg of mangoes of the Kent and Edward varieties, whose average price was of $3.00 kg.
According to the head of the Unit for Foreign Trade of AREX Lambayeque, Paola Corvacho Valderrama said that Germany has become a strategic market for producers from Lambayeque. Unlike 2011, when only USD 16,171 were exported, today mango registered a growth of 839.23%.
Another product with great success in demand, according to Corvacho, is frozen diced mango. It has a FOB value of USD 143,709, equivalent to 72,000 kg. Thus, showing an increase of 296% compared to 2010, since it was not exported in 2011.
Also, Lambayeque doubled its imports of frozen green peppers whose FOB value in 2011 was of USD 42,585.39 equivalent to 20,180 kg, being the only export of this product to Germany, where the port of entry was through Hamburg. "This way and once again, we promote the exports of non-traditional products," said Corvacho.
