At the removal of the 250,000 pepper plants from the glasshouse complex in German Hegau, the first successful pepper season is at an end. The combined project of Reichenau-Gemüse and five other project partners was with an investment of 15 million Euro started at the beginning of this year. "With a pepper harvest of 3.3 million kg or 16.5 million peppers the desired harvest quantity not only was reached, but was even surpassed," according to Johann Bliestle, secretary of the growers organisation Reichenau-Gemüse eG.
Also project partner Edeka is happy. As sole buyer Edeka, for the first time could constantly supply the consumers in the federal states of Baden-Württemberg and
Bavaria with regional peppers, fresh from Hegau. During the first two calendar weeks of 2013 the new pepper plants will be planted. From the middle of March there will be fresh, crunchy peppers available from the region for the customers in Edeka supermarkets.
