El Ciruelo releases seedless grape clock for New Year's Eve

Tradition in Spain dictates that with each of the 12 strokes of midnight on New Year's Eve a grape must be eaten if one wishes to have luck in the coming year.

For this New Year's Eve, El Ciruelo has created and patented a new way to eat the 12 grapes in an easier manner, with ready-washed seedless grapes presented in an attractive clock-shaped packaging.

"The packaging we have chosen is a tribute to the tradition with an image of Madrid's Puerta del Sol clock. It is a new and attractive design; the ideal format to eat the 12 grapes at the pace of the strokes of midnight. It is designed for one person, with twelve gaps, one for each grape, which will make it easier to keep track while eating them," explains Cristina GutiƩrrez, of El Ciruelo.

Besides being washed, the grapes are seedless, making them easier to swallow. "There is no need to peel them, and they also have the ideal size to avoid the risk of choking."

The grapes for New Year's Eve are sold under the brand Frut@express, which El Ciruelo's is using for factory-processed grapes with innovative types of packaging, offering a great value added.

El Ciruelo will sponsor Salamanca University's New Year's Eve 2013

Next Thursday, El Ciruelo will give away 15,000 seedless grape packs among those assisting to Salamanca University's New Year's Eve, which, for the first time, will use the traditional grapes to celebrate it. The grapes will be in their special packaging for New Year's Eve.

The grapes will be given away for free in partnership with the organisers of the University's New Year's Eve, which celebrates its eight edition and will gather over 40,000 people at Salamanca's Plaza Mayor.

Additionally, El Ciruelo started the campaign #nosvanadarlasuvas, a hashtag on Twitter which can be used to post about the University's New Year's Eve, which will be used to determine a prize winner, as the most original tweet posted with this label will win a trip to Ibiza for two people. All tweets with the hashtag will enter the competition and contestants will be allowed to include photos and videos of the event.

During the party, El Ciruelo will hand out clock-shaped medals with the contest rules, and right before the strokes of midnight, a few hostesses will explain how to celebrate the University's New Year's Eve with El Ciruelo's Lucky Grapes.

15,000 packs of seedless red grapes are already being shipped to Salamanca's Plaza Mayor for everything to be ready in time.
