The president of Extremadura's Government, José Antonio Monago, explained that 20% of the world's walnut production takes place in Extremadura, and he assured that it is a "premium quality" product, just like other produce produced in the region and is grown in a very sustainable manner.
Monago said this during his visit to the American black walnut plantation located in the town of Talayuela, in the province of Caceres, owned by the firm Foresta, which he thanked for its continuous innovation in the area of trees and derivatives thereof, such as walnuts.
The head of the autonomous government also praised the approximately 120 jobs created by "the best" American walnut plantation in the world, located in the north of the region, during the walnut harvesting period.
The president explained that Foresta signed an agreement with a North American firm to sell this product in the US with the name "Black Walnut of Extremadura". "It will be another trademark for our region, as the walnuts will have the seal: 'Extremadura Spain'," he added.
