Mexico sends berries to the U.S., Europe and Asia

The Ministry of Rural Development (SEDER) explained that the blackberry and blueberry producers of Colima market and export their product to the U.S., Europe and Asia. This is done through contract farming located in an area of 230 hectares of blackberry and 70 of blueberry.

The holder of the Seder, Adalberto Zamarroni Cisneros said that in Colima producers have known when to gamble on agriculture through contracts, and this year they have sold 230 hectares of blackberry and 70 hectares of blueberry. With this, they obtain important benefits to ensure product commercialization. He said that there is an approximate production of 1 million boxes of these berries, whose economic value can be as much as 50 million pesos.

Zamarroni Cisneros recalled that "for Colima, blackberry planting was an interesting process because it was a new crop and there was no technology for development, however, thanks to the good results, today we can see how the number of hectares has been steadily increasing, the quality and taste is number one."
