Ruud Biemans, Satori Holland:

"Market for limes struggled back up after difficult months"

After the sales of limes going being difficult for eight months, the price has pulled up again at the moment. "We are now at a good price level," says Ruud Biemans of Satori. "The prospects for this month are very good. More is now being shipped from Brazil, but it wont arrive in Holland before Christmas."

According to the importer, the quality of the limes is excellent. Ruud blames the difficult sales of the past period on the many suppliers on the market. "Anyone who could import a container, did, in the last few months. Now the available volume is lower, you can see that only the traditional importers remain. It seems like they're doing something right for their shipping agents."

new supply of Brazilian limes

Satori imports limes from Mexico as well as Brazil. "Mexico has less limes as a result of weather conditions and Brazil has just had a change in season. We will now get around three weeks of new harvest limes from Brazil," said Ruud explaining the lower supply. "Important buyers of limes are the former East Block countries, the UK and Spain."
