Germany: More lettuce from France

When it comes to lettuce, German domestic produce hardly plays a part on today’s market. The open ground harvest, made possible this season through some mild weather conditions, is now coming to an end, according to the Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI).

Import from Italy is now facing increased competition from France. Supplies in France are up and prices are still low due to slow sales. Varieties like the Batavia and Lollo Rosso are particularly cheap while prices for the Lollo bionda and the Red Salad Bowl are relatively stable.

Like with other varieties, the sales of mixed lettuce is down in Germany. This trend seems to be holding in the next week.
