Ecuador ships 11 million crates of mango

Weather permitting, Ecuador is likely to ship 11 million crates of mango this season. The amount represents an estimated value of over 80 million USD.

Grupo Agriproduct, exporting almost 40% of the total amour (and supplying the US, Europe and other South American countries), has confirmed the number. The company also mentioned the climate as one of the contributors to the large harvest. Importer Erwin Sterkens visits Ecuador every year to check up on the produce heading for his company Especial Fruit. “Right now we are very pleased with both quality and processing,” he states. “Ecuador is in a strong position, now that Brazil and Peru are not well represented on international markets.”

According to Agriproduct’s manager Jamil Farah the export of mangos has developed strongly in the last 20 years. “Producers benefit from standards like Global Cap, helping them to maintain quality and food safety. We are now looking to expand our export to Japan. We are working closely with the government and with the Fundación Mango Ecuador to achieve this goal.”
