In 2010 Colruyt started a study to establish which stretch packing for machine would be most suitable for processing PE foil instead of the classic PVC foil. The reason for the change to PE foil is the environment friendliness of this foil compared to PVC foil. The 'eco' idea is for Colruyt therefore more than nice words and plans only.
The Ulma Galaxy was the best in this study, after which Colruyt ordered, as a first stage, 1 Ulma Galaxy from GH-Ulma.
After a trial period Colruyt replaced its five stretch foil machines (a different make) with five Ulma Galaxy stretch foil machines. The last two ULMA Galaxy machines were supplied in February 2012.
In addition to the good performance of the PE foil there are still more advantages with the Ulma Galaxy:

* Automatic detection of length, width and height of tray
and product in the input (2 rolls of foil, 7 lengths to choose
from. This results in no adjustments at all when changing product.
* Up to 22% saving of foil per packing compared to other stretch foil
