Record sales in contrast with current price levels
Belgium: Hoogstraten Auctions sells over 30 million kg of strawberries
On Wednesday 28 November 2012 Veiling Hoogstraten in Belgium sold its 30 millionth kg of strawberries. Never before have so many strawberries been auctioned in a single year. The sale marks a stark contrast with current price levels. Veiling Hoogstraten markets strawberries produced by its own members and those of fellow auction house CLTV. The latter supplies almost a third of the total supply.

The surprised grower supplying the milestone was Jos Lanslots from Merksplas. The strawberries were purchased by Clafru Bvba, one of Hoogstraten's major buyers. The record sale confirms Hoogstraten as one of the biggest players on today's strawberry market.
