New packaging foil consists of 70% renewable materials

VDH Concept present smallest biobased potato bag in the world

VDH Concept is at Interpom Primeurs with something unique this year. The smallest printed organic based potato bag in the world. This bag is mainly made of sugar cane, a renewable material. VDH Concept is at the potato fair for the second time, with a brand new name this year, and visitors are attracted to the small potato business, which is only as single production. Jan Lode Van den Heuvel is at the fair with his wife and employee Iris van Camp.

"What we're introducing and presenting here is the new packaging foil," says Jan. "The JBreeze organic based packaging film is produced from 60 to 85% renewable materials. Organic based materials are made from plants, and plants are renewable, unlike petroleum. No difference can be seen between our packaging and an 'ordinary' packaging made from petroleum. The new packaging is 10 to 15% more expensive, but I expect this difference in price to grow smaller in the future, as the price of sugar cane is stable."

"Another important advantage of this new packaging foil is that it is from a renewable source, and therefore 100% recyclable. Besides this, we are also protecting the climate, as there is less CO2 emission during production. The foil is very strong and has an excellent printing quality. It is also certified with the necessary Bio-based European certificates. In short, the difference between conventional and organic based is not visible in the appearance of the foil, but is a much 'greener' and sustainable solution."
