Mario de Goede of Coolfresh:

"EU: "Pineapple market extremely bad"

The pineapple market is being oversupplied with large volumes of pineapple at the moment and that is not doing the market any good, which is in any case weak in November. "A big shipper is sending very large volumes and that also has an influence on the price. It is one big drama. At the moment we sell pineapple for 5/6 Euro, but they are also sold at 4/4.50 Euro and in Spain even for 3.50 Euro" Mario de Goede of Coolfresh sighs.

"On the other hand I have been involved in the pineapple trade for quite a number of years and actually I have never experienced a good pineapple market in November" the importer continues. He expects a smaller supply next week as a shock reaction to the bad market. "From the end of week 49 I expect sales to improve. From that date more programs with supermarkets have been planned and less will be supplied to the open market. Then the price will again go to about
7/8 Euro."
