Peruvian organic banana exports grow by 28%

Between January and October 2012, Peruvian exports of organic bananas totaled USD 67 million reaching a monthly average of USD 6.7 million, which represented an increase of 28% over the average of 2011.

Also, the quantities that were exported grew by 20% in the same period, reaching 9,800 TM monthly average, compared to what was obtained last year (8,100 MT), at an average price with an upward trend of USD 0.68 per kilogram.

Regarding the main destinations of the crop, the Netherlands topped the list with USD 35.6 million (53% of the total), followed by the United States with USD 13.9 million (21%), including 14 countries.

Meanwhile, the ranking of the major exporting companies was led by the Association of Small Organic Producers with USD 5.7 million (9% of the total), followed by the Association of Organic Banana Producers with USD 5.1 million (8%) among more than 44 exporters.
