Argentina: Blueberry prices not affected by decline in volumes

Recent reports of reduced Argentinian blueberry volumes between weeks 45 and 48 are the result of adverse weather conditions.

Ines Pelaez of the Argentinian Blueberry Committee said, "It is the effect of the "el NiƱo" phenomenon. Because of this the rainfall was higher than average reducing the amount of days on which harvest was possible."

The overall effect was not too dramatic on yield prediction however. A total of 14,000 tons are expected to have been gathered this season, against the earlier prediction of 15,300 tons.

The decline in volumes did little to alter the natural pattern of the pricing, as Ines explained.

"By week 44 prices are starting to decline and once they stop they never go up."
