Colombia: Free trade with EU boosts exports

Six months after the agreement entered into force with the U.S., Colombian exports to that country, not taking oil, coal and gold into account, exports have grown by 11.1 percent, revealed Hernando José Gómez, FTA cza.

For Gomez, the ideal goal is that in following years Colombia will take advantage of the trade agreement in a similar way as Mexico, Chile and Peru have done and who have significantly raised their agricultural exports.

"The country is about to enter the stage of agricultural exports from the United States, because it has much potential," said the official, adding that products like pineapple, avocado and strawberry, and others have many chances of success in a market that has an estimated the potential of 7,000 million dollars.

Also getting admissibility is pending, in the United States, for fruits and vegetables like hass avocado, peppers, melon and watermelon, as well as meat, poultry and their derivatives.
