Europe: Calm before the storm on redcurrant market?
Redcurrants are being shipped through the whole of Europe, but demand from Russia and the Middle East is high right now. “Italy, for instance, has gone through its supply earlier than usual and has now become an import market instead of an export market. With Germany its the same story really.”
Even though sales to the hospitality sector have dwindled, high retail demands have more than made up for that. “Fortunately, redcurrants have become fixed items in supermarkets these days, so we can always ship them somewhere,” exporters say. “The supply isn’t as forthcoming as blackcurrants, but still decent.”
