MMUK celebrates start of Spanish citrus season

MMUK (Munoz), a leading citrus specialist in the UK is celebrating the start of the Spanish Citrus season with Tesco.

“We are delighted to be welcoming in the Spanish citrus season to Tesco stores nationwide. Over the coming weeks we will be showcasing the very
best Spain has to offer," says Tesco citrus buyer, Tim Battey

During the next few weeks all stores will feature specially designed POS including signage and boxes to highlight the full Spanish range to our customers. This together with a series of promotions and exciting external marketing activities will lay the foundation as we lead into the all important festive period.”

“As a business we are focused on the supply of quality, fresh produce for our customers. The promotion of key seasonal events such as Spanish citrus is just another clear demonstration of this commitment.”

The celebration will see all key Spanish citrus fruits including oranges, lemons, clementines, satsumas and tangerines featured, with the campaign aims of growing sales, awareness, loyalty and penetration.

To mark the launch and support the in-store activity, MMUK have looked to bring a small taste of the Spanish hillsides to the city. During the event London will witness a series of ʻpop upʼ Spanish Orchards appearing alongside some of the capitals most iconic landmarks. The unique event will see thousands of pieces of citrus fruit handed out to the general public and businesses.

Kantar data has revealed that citrus fruit spend in the UK has increased by
£26.6 million (52 weeks to 28th October 2012). This has resulted in volume growth of over 7,500 tons in the same period.

Spanish citrus accounts for over 43% of the total UK market sales. Spain is the largest importer of citrus fruit to the UK, followed by South Africa and Morocco respectively. Spanish imports have seen growth of 15% year on year.
