Within the framework of the transfers program of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, MAG, for the development of productive projects, a transfer of ¢67,171,549 to Alfaro Ruiz's Agricultural Cooperative, Coopagrimar, R.L., was recently formalised to support the organisation's project for the export of carrots, which will benefit around 500 small producers.
This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Xinia Chaves Quirós, who was in charge of giving the good news to the cooperative and its associates. "I make an appeal to all associates of the cooperative to embrace this project, work harder and collaborate with the administration for a good management of the resources, with the goal of obtaining the best results," she stated.
Coopagrimar R.L. will invest MAG's resources in the construction of a new processing area and the acquisition of new harvesting and processing equipment, such as a hidrocooler, a cooling chamber and a forklift, informed the manager, Marco Vinicio Rodríguez.
The cooperative currently processes carrot and other fruits and vegetables, fresh and frozen, for both the national and the international market. It exports carrots to Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba, and carrot juice concentrate to the United States, Japan and Spain. The current plant capacity is of 45,000 kilos per week, and with the new infrastructure this figure could double, given the negotiations that are already taking place to enter the Chilean market, as well as other Caribbean and EU countries.
