"EU: "Calm sales of Spanish citrus"

The sales of the Spanish citrus is going like you would expect for this time of year. This is according to Toine van Hoof, of FRS Holland from Venlo, the sales office of Frutas Romu, which has a packaging station in Valencia, Murcia and Castellon. "The sales of oranges isn't that bad, but the mandarin sales are disappointing. The prices of mandarins are around 8 to 10 Euro (10 kg). Good navels are selling for 10-13 Euro. Lesser quality ones for 9-11 Euro."

The past few weeks, and mainly last week, there has been a lot of rain in Spain. "The expectation is that the sizes of the citrus will be a lot bigger due to this," says the importer. "In the past few days people in Spain couldn't pick anything. This means the availability will be at a lower level towards the end of the week, but with this calm market, I don't expect it to lead to an increase in price. On the other hand, if it gets warmer, which isn't expected, you will have some quality issues."

At the end of next week FRS Holland will also start selling Spanish grapefruit. "We have also invested in a new line for unwaxed lemons. There is mainly demand for this from the French and German market," concludes Toine.
