John Delvauw, Michel NV
"Belgium: "We have a fresh supply from our own growers"
The top fruit season is in full swing again and that is easy to see at wholesaler Michel NV. "Our speciality is strawberries but now is the time for apples and pears," says John Delvaux who has been working for the fruit wholesaler for the past 25 years. "One of company strengths is that we have direct contact with our own growers. This ensures that our products are super fresh with competitive prices. We believe, along with our customers, that the most important aspect of our products is good quality."

"Customers have a selection of various types of apple and pears, varieties and sizes at our company. There are 16/17 types of apples and around 12 types of pears. What is noticeable is the extreme rise in the offering. We used to offer 5 types of apples and that has been extended. A new variety is added every year. We make sure that our selection is based on the needs of the customer. However, selling more types has made trading a bit more difficult."
"A big change now compared to the past, is that less people are coming to the market. Back then we really did our business there and it was important for it to be busy. Our most important buyers are the wholesale and retail: shopkeepers and stallholders."
