Brazil: Good melon sales after slow start

After a slow start, sales of Brazilian melons are once again up to speed. Galia melons are being shipped for 7 to 8 Euro. “We don’t have large quantities right now,” importers say, “but sales are good. Galia and Cantaloupe are doing just fine. The price of watermelons is getting a little better. They are still on the small side, but they’re getting there.”

Brazil is the only supplier of melons right now. Other suppliers like Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama and Honduras aren’t expected to enter markets until next year. The pineapple, after a good first quarter, is grinding down, importers state. “Prices are a bit low, but we’re not too worried. We sold well for December.”
